CI and MI Programs

GIIT¡¯s Applied Translation and Interpreting Department offers two interpretation programs, a 2-year Conference Interpretation (CI) course and the 2.5/3-year Master of Interpreting (MI) course, both designed to produce professional interpreters serving cross-cultural communication needs for international conferences and business activities.

Both CI and MI students are required to complete two years of professional interpretation training. Selected MI students who have passed the qualifying examination are allowed to join the CI program, and all CI students are required to pass a mid-point examination at the end of the first year to be qualified for simultaneous interpretation training in the second year. The core curriculum comprises Consecutive Interpreting and Simultaneous Interpreting and elective courses including politics, economics, finance, diplomacy and law.

The interpretation faculty is composed of professors and instructors, including experienced practicing interpreters, who are able to offer students comprehensive and specialized professional training and guidance. Students also benefit from lectures and training sessions given by a team of visiting and adjunct professors who are also practitioners from international and regional organizations, government agencies, and industry.

Students are provided with internship opportunities at GIIT¡¯s designated local and/or international internship centers, including UN duty stations, international organizations, local government foreign affairs offices, government agencies, or in business.
